our distinct stories of progress show how a challenge once considered unsolvable was addressed: Sending a man to the moon, sequencing the rice genome, making medicine personal and reducing traffic congestion. Across the diversity of these examples, the film reveals how progress was made possible by a combination of people and technology, and by taking a distinct approach to making the world work better -- seeing, mapping, understanding, believing and acting. Today, this very approach can be used to tackle challenges large and small. This film was originally presented in an immersive experience on forty 85" screens in the IBM THINK Exhibit located at Lincoln Center in New York, NY from September 23 through October 23rd, 2011.

"The Solar System - Explore your backyard" is a highly immersive application that illustrates rather well the vastness of the world around us. Information regarding planets, constellations and countries are available at the click of a button, and in a fashion rarely seen. Rather than simply telling you the facts, I find that it's easier to show you; This means that instead of just reading about the gravitational pull or cross section of a planet, you get to view it in 3D in real time. This video is a quick fly-through, showing the different features available. Everything you see is 'In game'.

Look outside your window -- have you ever wondered what the quality of the air is out there? I mean RIGHT. OUT. THERE. 12 inches from your face. If so, you are out of luck. The air quality data collected by the government is likely sampled from far, far away and then applied to you on a regional level -- not very useful from the standpoint of trying to understand or change the local dynamics of pollution that affect you. If you're interested in joining a community of people who are going to change that, you are in the right place!

The BBVA Innovation Center today published a video on its website made in partnership with the MIT Senseable City Lab as an advance release on its joint research on the use of information to create new urban services. The video covers purchasing movements in Spain over Easter Week of 2011. It shows the character of spending patterns of four categories of points of sale (fashion, bars and restaurants, food stores/supermarkets and gas stations) throughout the day across different Spanish regions and cities. Data will continue to be collected over the upcoming Easter Week 2012 with the aim of testing the predictive capacity of this kind of analysis.

What could a sustainable neighbourhood in Melbourne look like? How could we transform a number of our existing urban communities through design ‘interventions’? If we are to develop low-carbon resilient suburbs in Melbourne, we need to have some vision of what a desirable future living scenario is, and the changes we can make today to set us on a path there. These films are a glimpse of that potential future. The animated films are a culmination of four years’ worth of work by students and staff from Swinburne University, RMIT University, Monash University and the University of Melbourne, as well as from Melbourne design professionals. Each presents a different area of sustainable design innovation. These include new infrastructure schemes for water, food, energy and public transport, along with innovative design strategies for suburban development and new local employment opportunities.

For our latest mission we constructed a custom wooden lectern with a megaphone holster and an attached sign that read, "Say Something Nice." The lectern was placed in public spaces around New York and then left alone. We wanted to see what would happen if New Yorkers were given the opportunity to amplify their voices to "say something nice." This project was produced by Improv Everywhere as part of the Guggenheim Museum exhibition stillspotting nyc.

Bibao 1978. Veterinaria.
